PPP concerned at ‘spying gadgets’

ISLAMABAD, Nov 19: The Pakistan People’s Party has expressed grave concern over reports that intelligence agencies have installed secret hi-tech cameras inside the Parliament House, and has demanded of the government to immediately remove the surveillance gadgets.

According to media reports, Pakistan’s intelligence agencies have installed several hi-tech invisible cameras inside the National Assembly Hall to monitor how 60 “purchased” parliamentarians voted on Tuesday.

The PPP has urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo motu notice and hold an inquiry into “bribing of parliamentarians” as well as embezzlement of state money for this purpose.

The report said the secret cameras had been placed “horizontally and vertically” near polling booths inside the National Assembly.

“The PPP demands of the regime to immediately remove the secret cameras installed inside the National Assembly Hall,” party’s information secretary Taj Haider said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The parliament is a sovereign body representing the collective will of the people and installation of cameras in it to secretly monitor the members is a grave insult to the people,” he said in a statement.

Millions of the poor people’s funds have allegedly been used to purchase parliamentarians and create forward blocs through threats, intimidation and bribery.
