GUJRANWALA, Nov 18:Residents of Ghakkhar town foiled a dacoity bid and caught five dacoits when they were fleeing after looting the house of an expatriate on Monday.
Later, police arrested five of their accomplices on their identification from Fatu Mand locality.
Muhammad Yousaf of Pir Abdullah Shah locality had returned from Korea recently. Five outlaws forced their entry into his house and held his family at gunpoint.
They were busy in collecting valuables when Yousaf overpowered one of them and raised an alarm.
Fearing danger, his accomplices rushed out of the house. In the meantime, Yousaf’s neighbours who gathered there on hearing his call for help, caught them.
On receiving information, the Wazirabad ASP and othersenior officers reached there. The arrested accused toldthe police that another gang of five dacoits were present in their hideout in Fatu Mand, Gujranwala.
A police team raided there and arrested them.
Five shot dead: Five people, including a woman, were shot dead while another sustained bullet injuries in two incidents in and around the city here on Monday.
Mushtaq Ahmad, his son Gulzar and brother Yousaf were working in their fields in Natho Soya village, Naushera Virkan. In the meantime, their rivals Chaudhry Shaukat, Arshad and others came there and opened fire on them after exchanging harsh words over a land dispute. As a result, Mushtaq and his son died on the spot while Yousaf received serious injuries.
He was rushed to the local DHQ Hospital from where he was shifted to Mayo Hospital, Lahore for his serious condition where he died.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
Meanwhile, Zulfikar Ahmad shot to death his sister and her lover on suspicion in Mandiala Warraich village.
Farzana had come to her parents’ after the death of her husband in Lahore. In the meantime, she developed relations with Hamid of Lahore. On Monday, they were sitting together when Zulfikar came there and fired at them. They both died on the spot.
JAC PROTEST: The Joint Action Committee of the Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association and the Pakistan Medical Association has protested against boards of governors in educational institutions and the civil hospital.
Speaking at a meeting held here on Monday under the chairmanship of PPLA president Prof Mahboob Ahmad and PMA president Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad, the participants said the poor would not be able to get education and medical treatment following the constitution of boards of governors.
They threatened that their protest would continue till the acceptance of their demand.
They said teachers and students would jointly hold a protest rally on Thursday at the Government Iqbal High School, GT Road, Gujranwala. It would be participated in by JAC central leaders Prof Syed Nazim Husain, Dr Yasmin Rashid and Jamil Virk.
