HYDERABAD, Nov 18: The Taluka City Council here on Monday demanded the broadcasting of Sindhi programmes by the radio channel of FM-101, Hyderabad.
Tabling the resolution, Ali Akbar Vighio said that the radio channel was launched six months back but it was a matter of concern that it broadcast no Sindhi programme.
He said that majority of the residents in and around Hyderabad were Sindhi-speaking and ignoring them was unjustified.
He demanded of the information and media development minister to ensure that Sindhi programmes were also broadcast by FM-101 without any delay.
Woman councillor Rana Siddiqui proposed that the matter should be forwarded to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority for necessary action.
The members agreed that a letter would be sent to Pemra to ensure broadcasting of Sindhi programmes by FM-101.
The council also adopted another resolution, tabled by Vighio, calling for provisions of basic facilities to the backward areas of the taluka.
Through yet another resolution, tabled by Abdul Waheed Qureshi Ajmeri, the TCC demanded of the authorities to reorganize the Zakat committees.
The convener, Abdul Qadeer Nagar, rejected reports about any interference in the working of the Hyderabad district council by the taluka council, and added that the issues would be solved through mutual understanding.
He was replying to a point of order by Abdul Hameed, who referred to the allegation, levelled by the district Nazim, Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, that the taluka councils were interfering in the working of the district council and that there were differences among the Nazimeen and their deputies.
He dispelled the impression that there was any dispute between the Nazimeen and their deputies. He, however, added that the Naib Nazimeen should not be ignored.
