KARACHI, Nov 18: Teachers and students at the University of Karachi on Monday staged demonstration against the model university ordinance, as they believed that it would undermine the concept of liberal education in the country.

Holding banners and placards, the protesting teachers and students raised slogans against the implementation of the ordinance. The rally was organized by the Society for Higher Education and Research.

They expressed concern over the ambiguous and controversial statements of the government and viewed that the regime was unnecessarily pressing for unrepresentative implementation of the ordinance.

The teachers alleged that the World Bank agenda and the IMF policies were directed towards providing maximum advantages to the already privileged class.

“The public is being fooled over the issue of increase in the fee structure of universities and the question of privitization. The actual outcome of the model university law will forcefully affect the whole academic structure,” said a press release.
