KARACHI, Nov 18: Sindh Chief Secretary K.B. Rind has asked the concerned officials to prepare a plan for shifting of the central prison, Karachi, outside the city and constructing a judicial complex at the site.

He was presiding over a meeting, which was attended by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, additional chief-secretary (finance) Fazlur Rahman, home secretary Brig Mukhtar Ahmed, IG prisons Brig Nisar Mahar, DCO Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, chairman Sindh privatisation commission and other senior officials, on Monday.

The IG prisons gave a presentation on the history of the prison and informed the meeting that the matter regarding its shifting had been initiated in view of the fact that the number of prisoners was going beyond its capacity as well as due to other problems, including wastage of time and difficulties in maintaining law and order situation.

The meeting supported the proposal of shifting and establishment of a judicial complex in the premises.

Mr Rind asked the home secretary, IG prisons and the DCO to prepare a strategic line of action and submit a report within ten days.

He emphasized that while planning the establishment of a judicial complex it should be ensured that all courts, like civil, sessions, banks, customs, Labour, etc., should be located in the complex.

Mr Rind also presided over a meeting to review prices of essential commodities in the local market. City Nazim, DCO and other officers attended the meeting. —APP/PPI
