KARACHI: Muttahida worker acquitted in murder case

KARACHI, Nov 18: The district and sessions judge, central, Zafar Ahmed Sherwani, on Monday, acquitted a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a murder case.

Mohammed Ijaz was prosecuted for killing Israr Ahmed in Sharifabad. The body of the victim was found in an abandoned vehicle on May 3, 1997, and the police registered a case against unknown culprits on the complaint of the deceased’s brother.

Later, the Muttahida worker was arrested and indicted in the case. The judge exonerated Ijaz of all charges as the prosecution could not bring incriminating evidence against him.

JAIL CUSTODY: The woman who had stabbed to death her parents on Tuesday was remanded to judicial custody on Monday.

Yasmeen, a 38-year-old divorcee, was produced before judicial magistrate, south, Rahmatullah Moro, for recording her confessional statement under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. However, the judge sent her to jail when she declined to record her statement, saying that the police had forcibly brought her to the court for confession.

Earlier, the woman had told reporters at the city courts that she had killed her father, Abu Nasar Faizi, and mother, Sajada Begum, out of frustration in their Defence house, because, she said, they used to call her mad.

She said she was forced to marry Adnan by her parents against her will and alleged that she had been given sedatives for the last two years by her parents.

REMAND EXTENDED: The judicial magistrate, central, Alia Anver, extended the remanded of a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement to police custody for interrogation in the murder case of labour leader Pasha Gul.

Suspect Naveedul Hasan was arrested on Wednesday by the Nazimabad police for his alleged involvement in case.

The 45-year-old labour leader was shot dead on Nov 6 in Paposh Nagar by two unknown motorcyclists.

The magistrate ordered the police to produce the suspect before the court on Nov 21.

FILE CALLED: The district and sessions judge, south, Agha Rafique Ahmed Khan, ordered the police to produce the police file of the case against Bilal Khar, the eldest son of former Punjab Governor Ghulam Mustafa Khar.

Bilal was booked by the Napier police in the year 2000 on the complaint of his ex-wife, Fakhra, who had alleged that her husband had thrown acid on her.

The accused, who was arrested early this month in his hometown, Kot Addu, had earlier been declared a proclaimed offender. The judge issued notice to DSP, Napier, to produce the case file before the court on Nov 20. He also issued notice to the superintendent of central prison to produce the accused in the court on the next date of hearing.

HARKAT WORKER: The framing of charge against Shaikh Mohammed Danial, an alleged activist of Harkatul Mujahideen al-Aalmi, was deferred till Nov 27 by Alley Maqbool Rizvi, judge, Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC-I), on Monday, adds APP.

The accused was booked for killing two policemen of Jamshed quarters police station and snatching their official weapons. Khawaja Naveed Ahmed and Farooq Hayat advocates represented the accused. The trial is being held inside the central prison for security reasons.
