‘No preparation for World Cup’

BARODA (India), Nov 17: West Indies skipper Carl Hooper said Sunday the ongoing one-day cricket series against India was not helping preparations for next year’s World Cup in South Africa.

“It’s good to see most of our batsmen among runs, but the conditions here are totally different from those in South Africa,” Hooper said ahead of Monday’s fifth One-day International match.

“I won’t call it the right preprations for the World Cup where we are going to face different conditions altogether,” he said.

The seven-match series is currently tied 2-2, with the West Indies winning the first two games at Jamshedpur and Nagpur and losing the next two at Rajkot and Ahmedabad despite scoring 300 or more runs.

“Any total is gettable in Indian conditions,” said Hooper.

India stunned the tourists by successfully chasing the third-biggest total of 324 in one-day internationals with five wickets and 14 deliveries to spare in the day-night match at Ahmedabad to square the series on Friday.

Indian captain Saurav Ganguly echoed Hooper’s sentiments, saying the tracks had so far not favoured bowlers.

“The teams chasing totals have so far won matches in this series,” said Ganguly. “The pitches are not bowler-friendly.”—AFP
