HYDERABAD: Dist council for ban on vehicles emitting smoke

HYDERABAD, Nov 17: The Hyderabad district council, through a resolution adopted here on Saturday, proposed to ban the entry of smoke-emitting vehicles in the city.
The resolution also proposed other measures to improve traffic system in Hyderabad city and district.
Tabling the resolution, Sumera Akhlaq Lodhi said traffic-related problems were increasing in the district because of the incompetence of the traffic police and the poor traffic management system.
She said in Hyderabad city, buses remained parked on the main roads and van and rickshaw terminals blocked the way of the pedestrians.
She alleged policemen, who were deployed on the road in front of the Circular Building, harassed motorcyclists and extorted money from them.
She pointed out similar scenes could be witnessed on the other city roads, where new rickshaw and van terminals had illegally been established.
The resolution noted most of vehicles were being plied on the roads without silencers.
It called for challaning such vehicles and suspension of police officials concerned.
Ms Lodhi said traffic signals should be made functional and separate space should be allocated for women in buses.
The council forwarded the resolution to district Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman and DCO Mir Hussain Ali for necessary action.
NAZIM: The Taluka councils have got nothing to do with the execution of various development work schemes in the district and the Naib Nazims should not be bothered about the district government’s funds.
This was stated by the district Nazim, Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzamman while speaking to the district council members on Saturday.
The district Nazim urged Nazims and the Naib Nazims to consult each other before sending proposals for development schemes.
He dispelled doubts about the roles of various administrative units, saying that the district constituted a government, Taluka served as an administrator while the union served as a council in the present system.
The Nazim said that the present system was entirely different from the previous local bodies system.
He said that he would propose to the National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB) to consider the district Nazim’s membership to the district council.
The HDA and WASA, he said, would be devolved soon and the district government would be involved with water distribution.
Asserting that he would bring the un-elected members of the District Public Safety Commission in the next council session and assured Qazi Abdul Qadeer that the HDA would definitely submit a report regarding his query.
