LARKANA, Nov 16: The DCO has ordered an inquiry into the disposal of 1,171 acres of state land in Larkana district.

The deputy district officer, revenue, has been appointed as the inquiry officer.

The district officer (DO), revenue, had allotted the land to peasants and agriculture graduates in open kutcheris held between July 16 and Sept 30. Now, the DO has been transferred.

Sources told this correspondent on Saturday the inquiry officer had sealed the relevant record. He had also asked the Mukhtiarkar concerned to get his statement recorded.

DIST GOVERNMENT: The district government is working without executive district officers in revenue, finance, community and information technology departments. Talking to Dawn on Saturday, District Nazim Khursheed Junejo said this had affected the performance of the district government.

The Nazim said district officers of revenue, works and education and works and communication had recently been transferred without taking him into confidence.

He said prior to the general election, 80 officers had been transferred from the district.

Junejo criticized the EDO, education, for making frequent transfers and postings.

He said the Sindh governor and the chief secretary had been contacted to replace the EDO, education, and appoint the officers.

WRITERS PROTEST: About 100 intellectuals and writers took out a procession under the banner of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat here on Saturday to protest against the murder of writer Malik Agani and his son.

Sindhi Adabi Sangat secretary Adal Soomro, Akhlaq Ansari, Sarkash Sindhi and others led the procession.

The protesters were carrying banners and placards.

They staged a sit-in at the main gate of the Jinnahbagh and demanded the arrest of the killers.

They also a staged demonstration outside the local press club.

Earlier, they held a condolence meeting at a local hotel.

Speaking at the meeting, Adal Soomro, Ejaz Aghani, Mohammad Ali Pathan and others termed the murder of Malik Aghani a move to gag a voice that challenged the feudalism.
