Musharraf invites Chinese leader

BEIJING, Nov 16: President Pervez Musharraf has invited new general secretary of the Communist Party of China, Hu Jintao, to visit Pakistan.

Chinese sources told APP on Saturday that the invitation was extended when the president met Hu here in December last year.

They hoped the visit would take place at an appropriate time.

During the meeting, Hu Jintao noted that Pakistan-China ties built on the basis of the principles of peaceful coexistence had withstood the test of time and history.

He said China attached great importance to Sino-Pakistan relations, which could be regarded as a model for friendly relations between countries with different social systems and cultural backgrounds.

Hu expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s contribution to international cooperation on anti-terrorism and the resolution of the Afghan issue.

Musharraf shared Hu’s views and said Pakistan was firmly opposed to terrorism, condemned the terrorist attacks on the United States on Sept 11 and had actively participated in international cooperation on anti-terrorism.—APP
