KARACHI: Accused in kidnapping case remanded


KARACHI, Nov 16: Justice Shabbir Ahmed of the Sindh High Court, who is also the administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts for Karachi division, remanded on Saturday alleged terrorist Sohail Commando in judicial custody till Nov 23.

Earlier, the accused was produced before the AJ by the Taimuriya police with three co-accused, Abdul Adeel, Nauman and Bano alias Huma Jaffery, on the charge of kidnapping Saeed, aged 12, for ransom.

According to the prosecution, the accused abducted Saeed on Oct 28. Later, Saeed and Nauman were released by their alleged captors. When the two boys reached their homes, police, who were investigating the matter, interrogated them separately. During investigation, police became suspicious of Nauman and when he was grilled, he confessed his involvement in the crime.

Police went to arrest the culprits and after they were arrested, it came to light that one of the accused was a most wanted man, Sohail Commando. The accused was alleged to be involved in at least 100 murder cases.

The AJ also remanded four other accused in another kidnapping case in judicial custody till Nov 23. The accused are policemen ASI Shehzad Baig, constables Mujahid Husain and Javed, and Waseem Ansari. Ayaz Ghaznavi is absconding.

According to the prosecution, Mohammed Jaffer lodged an FIR at Shah Faisal Colony police station that four persons, including one man in police uniform, barged into his house. They locked up children in a room, and took two friends of his wife, Shazia and Saeeda, into another room. They took photographs of the two women with a view to blackmailing them and later took them and two other men away in a vehicle.

The complainant informed the police control of the abduction. A police party of rescue 15 (police control) stopped the vehicle and recovered the women.

The culprits were brought to the police station where three of them were identified as policemen.

The AJ also directed police to submit final challan against the accused on or before Nov 23.— APP
