ISLAMABAD, Nov 15: The six-party National Alliance (NA) in its parliamentary party meeting on Friday expressed the confidence that a strong government will emerge from the new National Assembly to complete its tenure.

The meeting, which was presided over by former president Sardar Farooq Leghari, said every member of the alliance was confident and ready to serve the nation instead of becoming a silent member of the National Assembly.

Farooq Leghari, who also had a meeting on Friday with Mir Zafarullah Jamali, the PML-Q candidate for the slot of prime minister, during his address outlined the alliance’s strategy to be followed during the assembly proceedings. He assured that every member of the National Alliance will spare no effort to solve important issues being faced by the nation.

He said the alliance will try to build a relationship with all the patriotic forces, both inside and outside parliament, for the development of the country. However, he expressed his confidence that a strong civilian government would be formed, able to concentrate on issues like eradication of rampant poverty, unemployment, price hike and social injustices.

Later talking to reporters after the meeting, Mr Leghari said the US campaign against terrorism would have got a boost had the US commuted his death sentence into life imprisonment. However, he said Aimal Kansi was executed under the US law.
