BAHAWALPUR, Nov 15: The districts of Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur have a major share in the PPP forward bloc.

Syed Tanveer and Rais Muneer were elected from Rahim Yar Khan and Malik Amir Warren from Bahawalpur. Except Rais Muneer, the other two are new entrants to politics.

Malik Amir Warren was awarded PPP ticket on the recommendation of District Nazim and PPP leader Mr Tariq Cheema. He contested from NA-184 (Bahawalpur II) on Oct 10 and defeated Safdar Abbasi of PML-Q. Without PPP support from this seat, Warren would never have reached the assembly.

To the utter disappointment of PPP, he has sided with Faisal Saleh Hayat.

Tanveer Hussain Syed defeated two strong candidates — Zeb Jaffer (PML-N), daughter of former NA deputy speaker Jaffar Iqbal Gujjar, and PML-Q’s Sheikh Muhammad Anwar from NA-193 (RYK-II).

Rais Munir who defeated his uncle Raise Wazeer Ahmedof PML-Q from NA-197 (RYK-VI), had been Ms Bhutto’s adviser during her second stint as PM.

Shifting of political loyalties is not a new phenomenon in south Punjab which is dominated by feudal landlords.

No salaries: Fifty lecturers of government colleges in the district have not been paid salaries for the last two months.

They lecturers were selected by the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). They have appealed to the education department to pay them salaries before Eidul Fitr.

Meanwhile, Dawn learnt that about 150 teachers of the 889 appointed by a district recruitment committee in September, have declined to continue service as the places of their posting were in remote areas of the district.

It is also learnt that the newly appointed teachers have not been paid salaries for the months of September and October as the government has not yet transferred funds to the accounts of the district Nazim for the purpose.

INVESTIGATION: A police team started probe into the causes of the killing of an aged woman by three police constables in Mela Wali Gali in Baghdadul Jadid police jurisdiction.

The three constable are in custody.

TRAFFIC WEEK: The traffic police and transporters’ representatives delivered lectures on ‘road safety’ on Friday in a function held in connection with the traffic week.
