Jamali meets Leghari

ISLAMABAD Nov 15: Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali PML-Q’s nominee for prime minister met the Millat Party president and parliamentary leader of the six-party National Alliance, Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari, to gain his support.

Jamali’s meeting with the NA leader coincided with the reports of MMA’s refusal to support him in its Karachi meeting, and had asked the Grand National Alliance to propose another set of names including that of Sardar Farooq Leghari and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain for the top slot.

Earlier, Sardar Farooq Leghari’s name was being mentioned as one of the frontrunner in the race for prime minister but then he went in the background.

In today’s meeting, Leghari is reported to have told Jamali that he was never a candidate for the position.

Talking to newsmen here Leghari expressed the hope that GNA’s negotiations with the MMA would prove to be fruitful as he had sensed some flexibility on both sides. “I feel there is room for cooperation between both the alliances,” he maintained. Jamali claimed that he will get through the premier’s election with a sizable margin even without the MMA’s support.

He told newsmen that the GNA had already achieved its target of 180 votes; this number could increase.
