KARACHI: City govt finalizes plan to set up cardiac institute


KARACHI, Nov 15: The planning for the establishment of the Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases has been finalized by the city government.

DCO Shafqiur Rehman Paracha on Friday visited the old campus of the Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC) in this regard and reviewed the steps to be taken for changes to be brought in the existing structure to meet the requirements of the proposed project as per decision taken in a meeting held under the chairmanship of City Nazim Naimatullah Khan.

The DCO was informed that initially Rs10 million would be spent on construction works while the city government would seek the cooperation of private sector for procurement of equipment and machinery.

The DCO will review the construction work every fortnight to ensure timely completion of the project.

SITE SCHOOL: DCO Karachi Shafiqur Rehman Paracha visited the Site Public School where students and staff have been facing problems due to the presence of a hydrant in its vicinity.

The representatives of local NGOs informed the DCO that the condition of the approach road had deteriorated due to the presence of the hydrant, creating hardships for the students and the staff.

He was informed that a large number of students have left the school, reducing the number of students from 600 to just 137.

They said that the area industrialists and tanker owners had promised to repair the dilapidated road but they did not fulfil their promises even after several months.

The DCO said that if the situation did not improve in a week and the repair work on the road was not started, the hydrant would be closed down with the approval of the governor.

The DCO also visited the school and held a meeting with the staff.

The DCO assured them that he would solve the issue of payment of dues within a week.

Gattar Baghicha: Encroachments have reappeared in Gattar Baghicha where these were removed from about 200 acres of land.

DCO Shafiqur Rehman Paracha visited the Baghicha and regretted that the place, which was cleared of encroachments and arrangements were made for its protection, has been reoccupied by illegal occupants and was being used for cultivation of vegetables.

Mr Paracha directed the DO (parks), Hanif Nasir, to erect boards around the Baghicha and immediately remove the encroachments.

The DCO said that a meeting would be held next week to examine the development of a central park at the Baghicha and steps would be taken for removal of hurdles in the way.

GADAP TOWN: A separate review meeting will be held in each Town to ensure enhanced coordination and liaison between the city government and all the 18 Towns.

The decision was taken in a meeting held under the chairmanship of DCO Shafiqur Rehman Paracha to review the problems of Gadap Town on Friday. Nazim Gadap Town, EDOs Revenue, Works and TMO Shabbir Ahmed Jatoi attended the meeting.

It was decided that the city government’s health and education departments would extend all cooperation to resolve the health and education issues of the Town.

The DCO stressed the need for making the health centre functional under an NGO in the Town.

He asked the EDO (health) to provide staff and equipment as well as other facilities to the Health Centre with the approval of the City Nazim.—APP
