GUJRANWALA, Nov 14: A known local prize bonds dealer and two robbers were killed in a shootout on Khiali Road on Thursday night.

Waseem Toni, along with his father Muhamm Saleem, was on his way home after closing his office, Lucky Prizebonds, when three gunmen intercepted his two-wheeler on the Khiali Road.

The outlaws opened fire when Toni put up resistance. He received serious injuries and died on the spot. His father had a narrow escape.

Witnesses said the gunman of a nearby mosque shot at fleeing outlaws and killed two of them. The third managed his escape.

Another witness said a passer-by had opened fire on the outlaws.

Police were yet to speak on the shootout.

Shutters down: Shop-keepers of the People’s Colony Bazaar put their shutters down against the arrest of the Juma Bazaars Association president on charges of manhandling a woman councillor here on Thursday.

The shopkeepers gathered in the bazaar when they came to know about the arrest of Shaikh Muhammad Siddiq and later took out a protest procession. They paraded on various roads and demanded that Mr Siddiq should be released immediately.

They alleged the case registered against Shaikh Siddiq was false and fabricated. They threatened that they would continue their strike if Shaikh Siddiq was not released.

WASA NOTICES: The water and sanitation agency on Thursday issued notices to some 30 government departments for not clearing their dues.

The departments including police, Wapda, city tehsil council, commissioner’s office, health, highways, food, irrigation and the district council have not been clearing their dues amounting to Rs2.3 million for the last three years.

The Wasa authorities warned these departments to clear their dues within two weeks otherwise their connections would be severed besides referring their cases to the court.

SHOT DEAD: A shopkeeper was shot dead while his brother was injured by a general councillor and accomplices over a money dispute on Asghar Ali Road here on Thursday.

Sabir Husain and his brother, Talib, were sitting at their shop when councillor Mohammad Aslam Pahalwan along with accomplices reached there and opened fire. Sabir died instantly while his brother sustained critical injuries. He was taken to the local civil hospital.

BAILED OUT: A former MPA and his brother involved in the murder of a union council Nazim were bailed out by the Lahore High Court on Thursday.

Their bail applications were rejected by the district and sessions judge, Gujranwala.

Former PML-J MPA Khalid Pervaiz Virk and his brother, tehsildar Mohammad Asif Javed, were booked by the Naushera Virkan police on charges of killing UC Nazim Chaudhry Attaullah over an election row.
