Probe against ex-minister begins

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 14: The government has begun an inquiry against former Sindh health minister Ehsan Ahmed.

Well-placed sources told Dawn on Thursday that the anti-corruption establishment department had interrogated the purchase officer of the health department, Habibur Rehman.

They added that the purchase officer had been directed to bring with him the record of the details of a financial transaction made with two pharmaceutical companies.

A letter (DSP/AD/ACE/X/ 2002/78-79) addressed to the health department’s purchase officer, Habibur Rehman, says: “You are hereby directed to appear before the undersigned (the anti- corruption establishment DSP) in connection with the abovesaid inquiry being conducted against ex-minister health, Mr Ahsan, on 14.11.2002 at 1100 hrs along with relevant record of M/S Bosch Pharmaceuticals and Anson Company.”

Mr Ahmed resigned from the Sindh health ministry on Oct 23. Later, the Sindh governor, Mohammedmian Soomro, levelled allegations of corruption against the minister. He had said that investigation against Mr Ahmed would soon start.
