Kasi tribe gives strike call

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Nov 14: A shutter down strike and black day would be observed in the city on Friday against the execution of Mir Aimal Kasi.

The strike and black day call was given by the elders of the Kasi tribe, while addressing a protest rally in the city on Thursday.

The youngsters of the Kasi tribe took out a procession and marched through various streets of the provincial capital.

The protesters, carrying placards inscribed with anti-US slogans and demanding the cancellation of Mr Kasi’s death sentence, gathered in front of the press club and burned down the Stars and Stripes.

Speaking at the protest rally Jafar Khan Kasi, a leader of the Kasi tribe, said that the death sentence was in violation of the human rights and appealed to US President Bush and the governor of Virginia to convert the death sentence into life imprisonment.

Malik M. Ashraf Kasi urged the people of Virginia to launch a movement for the removal of the death sentence from their state laws and support Kasi’s case. The US government should reconsider the decision, he said.

Ibrahim Kasi gave shutter down strike and black day call for Friday. He appealed to the people to make the strike successful and show solidarity with Kasi and his tribe.
