KARACHI: Private sector may help build roads


KARACHI, Nov 14: Sindh Governor Muhammedmian Soomro said on Thursday that a proposal was under consideration to involve the private sector in the construction of roads in the province.

Under this proposal, the roads on Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Noori Abad and Port Qasim routes would be offered to the private sector for construction, he said while presiding over a meeting of the Provincial Committee On Investment (PCOI) held at the Governor‘s House.

He laid stress adopting an investment-friendly attitude for the promotion of investment in the province. He issued several directives for making the PCOI more effective, and suggested steps for promotion of tourism.

Chief Secretary K.B.Rind informed the meeting of the proposals for developing a hill station at Gorakh and recreational spots in the coastal areas.

Governor Soomro directed the officials of the concerned departments to ensure provision of the infrastructure. He was informed that full attention was being paid on providing sufficient water for drinking as well as for industrial purposes.

Additional Chief Secretary P&D, Shahzado Shaikh, told that alternative and additional sources of water were being explored and in that respect work was under way for exploring subsoil water at Noori Abad.

Provincial ministers Dewan Muhammad Yousuf Farooqui, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Muqeem Khoso, officials of the Board of Investment and others attended the meeting.—PPI
