ISLAMABAD, Nov 13: The acting secretary-general of the Pakistan People’s Party, Mian Raza Rabbani, said that the PPP would uphold the amendments which were consistent with its manifesto, including the provisions pertaining to increase in the general seats, women seats and the system of joint electorate.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, he said: “No individual and no institution except parliament has the right to amend the Constitution.”
He said the PPP was opposed to the proposed national security council as a body to serve as a check on the democratic institutions.
He said his party was also against the discretionary powers of the president regarding the dismissal of parliament and making important appointmen and was opposed to the LFO being declared a part of the Constitution through an executive order.
He said the Constitution was a sacred agreement governing the relationship among the federating units, the state and the individual.
