KARACHI, Nov 13: Police, on Wednesday, claimed to have arrested the killer of labour leader Pasha Ahmed Gul.
Police sources said they had arrested Naveed from Paposh Nagar and he had confessed that he and his accomplice, Azhar alias Ajji, killed Pasha Ahmed Gul on Nov 6. The sources added that Naveed was an ex-member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
Following the killings of Pasha Ahmed Gul in Paposh Nagar and Mumtaz Begum in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, the DIG Operations Karachi had suspended the SHOs of both the police stations. However, on Wednesday, he reinstated SHO Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Qaiser Ali Shah.
Talking to Dawn, DIG Tariq Jamil said the SHO Gulshan-i-Iqbal was not present in his area. The place where the incident took place was under another police officer responsible for that area. The DIG did not confirm whether the responsible police official was suspended. He also declined to name that official.
Pasha Ahmed Gul, aged 45, having drawn Rs30,000 from the MCB branch, Block-A, North Nazimabad, had reached Sarafa Bazar in Paposh Nagar, where he parked his car (A-4943). As he got off the car and was about to approach the National Bank of Pakistan, Paposh Nagar branch, two unidentified men, holding TT pistols, intercepted him, pumped three bullets into his body and sped away on a motorcycle, police said.
Mumtaz Begum, aged 50, was shot dead outside the utility store behind the Ashfaq Memorial Hospital, when she put up resistance to the armed men who tried to rob her.
