Young guns upset Pak Gymkhana

KARACHI, Nov 11: Newcomers A.J. Worldwide, comprising mostly youngsters who recently played in the Under-19 championships, scored an incredible 67-run victory over Pak Gymkhana in the 8th Tapal Trophy Ramazan Cricket Festival here Monday.

The result at UBL Sports Complex is all the more remarkable as Pak Gymkhana is one of the oldest clubs in the city and includes a number of former Test and international stars.

Naved Khan, a wicket-keeper/batsman who led Karachi Blues Under-19s, was the star performer for A.J. Worldwide. He made 73 with four boundaries.

Khurram Manzoor, another upcoming batsman from the junior lot, struck three fours in making 51. Naved and Khurram were involved in a second-wicket partnership of 115.

Slow left-armers Asif Mujtaba, the ex-Test star, and Yahya Toor took three for 34 and two for 29 respectively as A.J. Worldwide reached 186 for nine in their 25 overs.

Pak Gymkhana, in reply, were shot out for 119 in 18.4 overs. Ghulam Ali, a former international, scored 31 while Sohail Jaffar contributed 33.

Leg-spinner Atif Raza bowled superbly to claim four for 29 while slow left-armer Sami Faridi chipped in with two wickets for 27.

A.J. WORLDWIDE 186-9 in 25 overs (Naved Khan 73, Khurram Manzoor 51, Salman Khan 21; Asif Mujtaba 3-34, Yahya Toor 2-29);

PAK GYMKHANA 119 in 18.4 overs (Sohail Jaffar 33, Ghulam Ali 31; Atif Raza 4-29, Sami Faridi 2-27).
