KARACHI, Nov 11: The additional district and sessions judge, Central, Ghulam Qadir Leghari, acquitted an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in an unlicenced weapon’s possession case.
Mehmood Khan alias Mehmood Bandhani was booked in 1994 for allegedly possessing an unlicenced rifle. The judge, however, exonerated him from the charge as the prosecution could not bring incriminating evidence against him.
The additional district and sessions judge, West, Ms Nuzhat Ara Alvi, acquitted the joint secretary of the Mohajir Rabita Council, Shahnawaz, in a case registered against him by the Orangi Town police.
He was alleged of attacking a vehicle of the Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation two months ago.
The judge acquitted him for want of incriminating evidence.
ACQUITTED: Special anti-narcotics court Judge Ali Nawaz Pirzada acquitted a man, charged with the possession of 350 grams Charas.
More Ali was arrested by sub-inspector Noor Ahmed of the Malir City police.
The judge exonerated the accused person from the charge under section 265-K of the CrPC as the prosecution could not bring on record incriminating evidence against him.
The same court awarded rigorous life imprisonment to a drug trafficker for selling heroin in a bus.
Shakil Ahmed was arrested on Dec 16, 1998, by the Kalakot police when he and his accomplice were selling the contraband.
The police had seized 22 kilograms heroin from him, whereas his accomplice, Shaukat Ali, escaped.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs500,000 on the drug trafficker, who would have to undergo an additional three-year term imprisonment in case of default.
