KARACHI, Nov 11: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has called for benefiting from international experts and experiences besides coordinating efforts at the local level for the attainment of required results in the field of information technology.
He was presiding over a meeting on information technology here in the Governor’s House on Monday.
The meeting was attended by the Sindh Finance Minister, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Additional Chief Secretary Shahzado Shaikh, the Director of Sindh IT Board, Syed Asim Zafar, vice chancellors of universities and other experts.
At the meeting, the ongoing projects and steps taken for the promotion of information technology in the province were reviewed.
Shahzado Shaikh briefed the meeting about the details of the Sindh IT Board pavilion at the ITCN-2002 held at Dahran Expo Centre.
He called for early completion of networking in all the government departments and ministries, and said the process of preserving and securing records be expedited.
He said there should be full use of computerization for facilitating the people as well as making information available to them.
The meeting was informed that at ITCN-2002 at Dahran some 7,800 foreigners and 6,600 overseas Pakistanis visited the Sindh pavilion.
The governor stressed the need for making better arrangements to attract foreign students to Pakistani educational institutions. In this regard he directed the education department and the IT Board to devise a practicable system.
A suggestion for organizing educational and IT sections in Pakistani embassies was also discussed.
The governor said foreign students can be attracted here only when an improvement will be brought about in the standard of our universities.
He noted that effective steps had been taken in the past few years for ensuring quality and academic atmosphere in Pakistani universities.—APP
