KARACHI, Nov 11: The provincial Chief Secretary, K. B. Rind, has ordered an inquiry into the substandard construction of Bakra Piri-Memon Goth Road in Malir area. The project was completed about 10 months back under Khushhal Pakistan Programme. The concerned authorities have been asked to submit a detailed report of the inquiry within three days.
Mr Rind issued the orders during his visit to the Malir and Model Colony areas where he inspected road and sewerage projects on Sunday. He was accompanied by the District Coordination Officer, Karachi, Shafique Rahman Paracha.
The CS observed during the inspection of that the construction work was not of specified standards. As per his directives, the DCO advised the concerned consulting engineer to avail the services of an engineer from the Army Monitoring Team in the inquiry.
Mr Rind also inspected the ongoing drainage project that also involves laying of sewerage line from Kazimabad to Malir Halt via Model Colony. The estimated cost of the project is more than Rs10 million and after completion would provide certain facilities to more than 200,000 people living in Kazimabad, Model Colony, Jaffar Bagh, Moinabad and Faisal Town. The foundation stone of the project was laid last month. It would be completed by Dec 31.
In his Sunday visit, the chief secretary also visited an 8.5km road between Malir and New Vegetable Market and inspected another road construction project aimed at connecting different villages of Malir with the market located on super highway. The project is to be completed in two phases. In the first phase, construction of a 2.5km road costing Rs8.6 million is being carried out while and the remaining part would be completed under KPP-IV at a cost of Rs12.5 million. The project, Hashim Jokhyo Village-Zakarya Village near Toll Plaza on super highway, would interlink at least eight villages.
Mr Rind, talking to some agriculturists of the area on the occasion, urged them to use these facilities in transporting their produce for sale in city areas. The agriculturists requested provision of a suitable place. The chief secretary promised to convey their demand to the relevant authorities.—PPI
