KARACHI, Nov 10: Tariq Ali played a sparkling innings of 89 that helped Malir Companion defeat Shalimar CC by a narrow margin of four runs in the 8th Tapal Trophy Ramazan Cricket Festival at UBL Sports Complex here Sunday.
Man-of-the-Match Tariq’s 70-ball knock, which included seven fours and three sixes, guided Malir Companion to 172 for eight in 25 overs. The opening stand between Tariq and Athar Ali (32 off 32 balls) realized 72.
Shalimar CC, in reply, reached 168 for nine despite a 60-ball 65 (five fours) by Ijaz Ahmed.
Meanwhile, Omer CC caused an upset when they surprised Baqai Dolphins by five wickets thanks to an unbroken 45-run partnership between Saqib Hasan (27) and Faisal Mirza (31).
But all-rounder Iqbal Shaikh was Omer CC’s real hero. He claimed two for 43 and then contributed 47 that was laced with five hits to the fence.
Former Pakistan wicket-keeper Javed Qadeer and the ex-national Under-19 captain Maisam Hasnain each made 50 for Dolphins.
Javed struck eight boundaries before being run out. Maisam hit a brace of fours.
