Women teachers’ plea

Published November 11, 2002

LAKKI MARWAT, Nov 10: Women teachers recently appointed on a contract basis in schools have demanded that the education department should review the policy of appointment of women against CT (certificate of teaching) posts.

The education department had held interviews of candidates for appointment against CT posts lying vacant in different schools of the district on Oct 8.

The teachers said they were surprised to know that all the women candidates had been appointed on a temporary basis, despite the fact that some of them had served as teachers on contract in pay scale-14 against the posts for more than five years.

On the other hand, they said, the men selected for appointment on Sept 1 had been recruited on a permanent basis, which  created resentment among the women teachers.

The affected teachers and the teachers’ unions demanded review of the policy and redress of their grievances.
