PESHAWAR, Nov 10: A student of Peshawar University committed suicide  by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his hostel room, eyewitnesses told Dawn on Sunday.

The MA previous student of history department, Saddam Hussain, son of Bakht Jehan, resident of Wari in North Waziristan Agency, committed suicide in his room in Block-A of the New Hostel on Saturday, witnesses said.

They said that in the morning he met his friends and showed no signs of tension but before Iftar he went to his room and never came back. His friends went to his room and opened the door, but found Saddam hanged from the ceiling fan.

They took him to Khyber Teaching Hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.

His friends  said the reason for his suicide could be financial as they had found a written note in his hand stating: “Millions of rupees are not enough for a man in the world but Rs3 is enough to say goodbye to it.” He had bought a rope for Rs3 for committing suicide, they added.
