Bureau Report
HYDERABAD, Nov 10: A group of the activists of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM) observed a token hunger strike outside the Jamshoro Press Club on Sunday.
They were protesting against the registration of water theft cases against Syed Imdad Mohammad Shah, the son of late G.M. Syed.
Talking to the protesters, the general secretary of the party, Asghar Shah, joint secretary, Munawar Mari, and others said on the one hand, agriculture of Sindh was being destroyed due to the construction of the greater Thal canal and other projects on the River Indus and on the other, water was being diverted to the cantonments and land of army personnel in the province.
They said to irrigate the land of the Sakrand cantonment, watercourses of other growers had been closed.
They alleged at the insistence of the army, the irrigation department registered false cases against Imdad Shah as he had raised his voice against these injustices.
They said if the cases were not withdrawn, the JSMM would enlarge the scope of its protest.
