KARACHI: Action against illegal marriage halls

KARACHI, Nov 10: As a result of the ongoing campaign by the Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA) against illegal marriage halls and lawns established on residential plots in the city, the owners of such lawns in Federal B. Area and 13 in Gulshan-i- Iqbal area have assured that they would submit their maps to regularize their structures within one week.

In the last week of October, the KBCA issued notices to the owners of all marriage halls/ lawns to regularize their illegal constructions under or face action that might include demolition. After the deadline several halls were sealed.

The KBCA has also decided to issue notices to all building owners utilizing residential plots for commercial purposes to regularize them, otherwise they will also face action.

Punitive actions will also be taken against commercial buildings where shopkeepers have extended their shops to include the arcades in front of them.

The Apex Court has directed that arcades and verandas should be reserved for pedestrians.—PPI
