No ceasefire in Ramazan: Fernandes

GUWAHATI, Nov 9: Indian Defence Minister George Fernandes on Saturday shot down speculations that New Delhi would offer a ceasefire in occupied Kashmir during Ramazan.

“India has no plans of offering a ceasefire to militants in Kashmir in view of Ramazan,” Fernandes told reporters on a trip to Assam.

Indian forces in held Kashmir have relaxed curfews and announced an end to random friskings to mark Ramazan.

Some media reports had said India would go further and call off operations against the Mujahideen.

In 2000 Delhi used Ramazan to declare a unilateral ceasefire in the held state. —AFP
