Altaf names new convener

KARACHI, Nov 8: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief, Altaf Hussain, on Friday appointed former provincial minister, Dr Ishratul Ibad, as acting-convener of the party’s coordination committee.

The announcement came a day after Altaf suspended Dr Imran Farooq as convener, accusing him of not following the party line.

According to a press release issued by the MQM’s international secretariat in London, the decision to appoint Mr Ibad was taken by the coordination committee in its meeting in London.

The decision was endorsed by Altaf, the press release added, saying that members of the coordination committee apologized to the party activists and supporters for their past mistakes and pledged not to repeat them.

Those who attended the coordination committee meeting in London, included acting convener Ishratul Ibad, deputy convener, Dr Farooq Sattar, Shaikh Liaquat Hussain, Shoaib Bokhari, Nasreen Jaleel, Sardar Ahmed and members of the coordination committee Mohammad Anwar, Syed Tariq Mir, Salim Shahzad, Anis advocate, Mohammad Ashfaq, Mustafa Azizababdi, Zulfiqar Haider advocate, member of international secretariat Haji Jalal Khan and others.
