GUJRANWALA, Nov 8: Eighteen councillors of Garjakh union council, including Naib Nazim, expressed their concern over the misappropriation of funds by the Nazim and moved the district coordination officer and tehsil municipal administration for an action against him.

Naib Nazim Malik Muhammad Saleem and 17 councillors in a memorandum to the DCO and other senior officers alleged that Nazim Younas Iqbal Ansari was involved in embezzling Rs700,000 grant released by the district government.

They also accused that he fixed Rs5,000 per month rent of the UC office, but he paid only Rs3,000 to the building owner. Now for the last few months, they claimed he was not even paying the rent.

They demanded that a stern action should be taken against the Nazim after conducting an impartial inquiry.

The councillors said since the formation of the local government not a single uplift project had been completed due to the dictatorship of the Nazim.

CANCELLED: Naushera Virkan tehsil council on Friday cancelled the contract of collecting construction fee on the charge of overcharging and irregularities.

Citizens were directed to contact the tehsil municipal administration for the approval of the construction of their houses and other buildings.

According to a report, the contractor was involved in overcharging while his men were looting the citizens in the name of construction fee. The contractor and his men issued notices to citizens even for the construction of walls and blackmailed them.

On receiving complaints, tehsil Nazim Sardar Tariq Raza cancelled the contract immediately.

Meanwhile, Naushera Virkan tehsil and the Agricultural Development Bank issued notices to 100 defaulters.
