Azam booked for provocative speech

JHANG, Nov 8: MNA-elect Maulana Azam Tariq and five other office-bearers of the banned SSP were booked by Kotwali police under Section 16 of the Maintenance of Public Order for delivering provocative speeches at a congregation last Friday in Haq Nawaz Shaheed Mosque in Mohallan Piplianwala.

Maulana Tariq had been released just two days before the incident on the orders of Lahore High Court, after he assured the court that he would work for sectarian harmony and avoid making provocative speeches.

Maulana Tariq had contested the election in captivity from NA-89 and defeated Pakistani Awami Tehrik chairman Allama Tahirul Qadri.

The other five persons booked along with the Maulana Tariq were Maulana Rana Abdul Rauf, Maulana Mohammad Arif, Mehmood Iqbal, Khalifa Abdul Qayum and Shahid Jhangvi.

BOOKED: Three persons have been booked by Langrana police for kidnapping a 14-year-old boy for ransom.

According to the FIR, Zafar Iqbal alias Zafri with his two accomplices kidnapped 14-year-old Azhar Ali of Chak 145/JB and released him after receiving Rs400,000 from his parents.
