KARACHI, Nov 8: The provincial Secretary, Excise and Taxation, Aftab Ahmed Memon, has said that approximately 10 percent of the total vehicles in the province had been defaulting on motor vehicle tax.
Talking to PPI at his office, Mr Memon said that 80 per cent of the defaulters appeared to be commercial vehicle owners and they had been evading the tax for the past four-five years.
He pointed out that the recent five-day campaign, Nov 2-6, had come after a lapse of several years as the department had undertaken no such drive in the province. He said that the campaign led to the recovery of Rs12,98 million on account of the tax and fine.
Responding to a question, the secretary said that the proposal of levying road user tax to be collected through petrol pumps, was under consideration. — PPI
