KHAIRPUR: Breach floods crops

By Our Correspondent

KHAIRPUR, Nov 7: The embankments of the Mahessar Branch developed a 30-foot breach in Wahid Bux village here on Thursday.

According to villagers, three houses, sugarcane and cotton crops and vegetables were inundated.

The villagers alleged the breach occurred due to the inefficiency of the irrigation officials.

Meanwhile, growers of the Mohabbat Wah staged a protest demonstration against the irrigation officials for taking water illegally from the Wah.

They threatened to enlarge the scope of their protest if the practice was not stopped.

ANTI-TETANUS VACCINE: Thousands of women of Khairpur district were not administered the second doze of anti-tetanus vaccine, which was due on Oct 28.

The women were administered the first doze of the vaccine on Sept 28 in 39 union councils of the district.

Meanwhile, social and political women leaders of the district demanded of the Sindh government to complete the preventive course of the disease.

When contacted, the EDO, health, Dr Fazal Mohammad Siddiqui, told this correspondent a gap of 15 to 20 days would not make any difference and his department was planning to administer the vaccine.
