SUKKUR: Seven sentenced to 22-year RI

SUKKUR, Nov 6: The Judge of the Anti- Terrorism Court-II (Sukkur and Larkana divisions), Riaz Ahmed Rajput, on Wednesday sentenced the seven accused, including six absconders, allegedly involved in the kidnapping of Ramesh Lal, to 22 years of rigorous imprisonment and Rs30,000.

The accused would have to undergo an additional imprisonment of nine month if they do not pay the fine.

Ramesh Lal is the proprietor AR Ghee Mills.

The names of the persons, who have been convicted, are: Anwer Maher, and six absconders Gul Lakhan, Sadiq Samejo, Hafeez Sanjrani, Rajab Shaikh, Karmoo Ulro and Muneer Jatoi.

Three dacoits were involved in the kidnapping of the proprietor of AR Ghee Mills.

The police had arrested Anwer Maher on Nov 24, 2001 after an encounter. Three of the accomplices — Riaz Hussain, Nazeer Ahmed, and Imdad Chachar — were killed on the spot.

Six other accomplices had fled the scene after the encounter.

The police had also recovered three kalashnikov rifles from their possession.

Besides, the judge awarded another five-year imprisonment term to the accused, Anwer Maher, under Section 13 besides imposing an additional fine of Rs10,000.
