KARACHI, Nov 6: Berthing activity at the wharves on Wednesday was maintained on the higher side as the port agencies tried to clear the inward rush of foreign flag vessels.
As a result, seven ships, Global Progress, Kota Teraju, APL Costa Rica, Jamila, and Sima Bahar to unload and load containers, Makran to offload general cargo and Stolt Sakra to offload chemicals were berthed after the sailing of as many.
The ships, which departed included PONL Singapore, Mar Challenger, Kota Wangi, Global Progress, New Alliance, Tigris and Emirate Star, while Johar, Jamila, Stolt Sakra, Kota Teraju, Sima Bahar and Dubai are expected to sail out on Thursday.
Owing to steady berthing and sailing, berth occupancy at the wharves was maintained on the higher side at 67 and 76 per cent both at the oil piers and the dry wharves.
A total tonnage of 86,198 tons comprising 14,992 tons of export cargo including 2,774 tons of wheat and 71,206 tons of import tonnage was handled.
Only one ship, Cherry Velley to load 2,000 tons of wheat is due on Thursday.
KARACHI, Nov 6: Three ships carrying edible oil, coal and containers were berthed at Marginal Wharf, Steel Jetty and Qasim International Container Terminal during the last 24 hours, says a PQA press release on Wednesday.
Seven ships, New Guardian, Hyderabad, Male, Saudi Diriyah, Contship Champion, New Seto Kaze and Yong Tai were at the berths loading/offloading wheat, containers, edible oil and coal.
A cargo volume of 26,346 tons comprising 12,645 tons of export cargo and 13,701 tons of import cargo, inclusive of cargo carried in 758 containers (Teus), was handled.
