The donation has been extended by Dr M. Ghalib Khan, who after living in Britain for a long time has recently returned to Pakistan. The publications pertained to different subjects and disciplines.

Dr Khan was the chief guest, while the function was presided over by KU vice-chancellor Dr Zafar Saied Saify.

Dr Saify said Karachi University’s library has the distinction of having the collection of personal books of the Father of the Nation along with his furniture.

It also has the record of Pakistan Muslim League pertaining to independence movement and the evolution of the PML.

He highlighted the significance of books and reading habits towards acquisition of knowledge.

Dr Khan spoke about the role of books and libraries along with their benefits.

Professor Emirates, KU, Dr Riazul Islam said in the past, Muslim rulers paid special attention towards libraries. “The ancient Library of Istanbul is peerless while the libraries of Asfahan, Baghdad and Delhi were unfortunately destroyed as a result of wars,” he added.

The ceremony was attended by deans of faculties, chairpersons of the teaching departments and directors of research institutes.
