KARACHI, Nov 3: Steal The Show, the thoroughbred bay colt from Flaming Arrow out of First Lady, displayed the class of a champion by beating main contender My Freedom by six lengths, when the Winter Gymkhana Race Meeting got under way at Karachi Racecourse Sunday.

Partnered by M. Rehan, the champion colt never let his large band of supporters down, collaring front runner My Freedom when heads turned for home and passing the winning post in a smart time of one minute 15 2/5 seconds over the sprinting distance of six furlongs.

My Freedom with four straight victories under his belt, had his fair share of support, but Steal The Show carrying a heavy impost of 9-12 on his back was just too good for the rest of the field.

For young jockey M. Rehan this was his first victory over here since his return from Australia a year ago.

Another rider that impressed the racing fans, was another young jockey Tehseen Hussain, who displayed splendid horsemanship while riding Paddock Fancy to win in the seventh race.

Jockey M. Nasir added another feather to his cap when he rode a magnificent race in the sixth event, storming in from behind to beat front runner The Champion Strides by only 3/4 of a length.

The bay mare Sweet Grandy at last registered a victory with Inayat II aboard, beating nearest rival High Speed by 2 1/4 lengths in the opening event.

The dark bay colt Recent Command grabbed his maiden win, galloping in from behind to overtake top weight Power Plus in the next event.

Rajwar after three disappointing runs, gave his supporters something to cheer about, winning the third race from Reincarnated.

Leading owner Faisal Farooq also had something to celebrate. His thoroughbred bay horse Neelam Taab, beat Deniro with effortless ease. Wonder Thunder was third, but the running of Star Flash finishing a bad fourth left a bad taste in the mouth.

Surprisingly there was no Stewards’ inquiry into the running of Star Flash after a fine show only a few days ago.

M. Ateeq, also a leading owner with a string of fashionably bred horses at his disposal, was also among the winners when his bay filly Fly To The Sky obliged her stable connections by beating nearest rival X’tasy by one and quarter lengths. Guarantee finished third, while Welcome Shahtab completed the frame in the fifth race.

The next race scheduled will be held subject to the sighting of the Ramazan moon. If the moon is sighted on Tuesday night, there will be no races on Wednesday and no events with be held during the holy month.
