LAHORE, Nov 3: The mother of Dr Amir Aziz on Sunday took exception to interior minister’s remarks that the doctor had been involved in “other activities”, saying they indicated that the government was trying to give some new twist to her son’s arrest.
In a statement, Begum Zakia Aziz said Dr Amir bore a neat and clean character and had always followed legal, human and religious codes. He was a thorough professional imbibed with love for Islam and Pakistan. He never took part in any clandestine activities nor did he believe in them, she said.
Begum Zakia said the interior minister was unable to understand that like her, every mother in the country was praying for the release of Dr Amir. It was strange that the interior minister had chosen to level a fabricated charge at a time when Amir had been interrogated for one year and detained for two weeks.
She said her family had earlier expressed apprehension that the government would implicate Dr Amir in false cases just to appease the US. The interior minister’s statement was a nightmare that had made Dr Amir’s family worry about his welfare, she said.
