KARACHI, Nov 3: The city district government’s advisory committee has expressed grave concern over the worsening water situation in the city. The advisory committee, which met here on Saturday with city Nazim Naimatullah Khan in the chair, decided to convene a special meeting on November 5 at Civic Centre to discuss in detail the issues pertaining to water and sewerage.

The meeting to be attended by the city government’s executive district officer (water and sewerage wing) and other senior officers will take decisions concerning water and sewerage problems in the light of the suggestions to be put forth in the meeting by Nazims of different towns.

DEMO: Residents of Surjani Town on Sunday staged a demonstration in front of the Karachi Press Club to voice their anger over the persisting water shortage in their locality.

The protest rally, which was organised by Pasban Gadap Town, chanted slogans against KWSB officials, area Nazims, councillors and rangers for not paying any heed to the lingering water issue of Surjani Town’s sectors 4, 5, 7 and the adjacent Yousuf, Siddiq and Rahim goths.

Speaking to the rally, Pasban’s Gadap Town president said that if immediate measures were taken to help restore the supply of the affected areas of Surjani Town, the angry residents of the township would be compelled to surround the officials of the KWSB.

Acute water shortage continued to persist in Orangi Town’s sectors 7, 8 and 13, Lyari’s D D Chowdhary Road, near Lyari Telephone Exchange, Federal B’ Area’s blocks 6, 10; Clifton’s blocks 2, 5 and 7.

Residents of affected sectors of Orangi Town complained that although they had been experiencing acute water shortage for the last fortnight, the concerned officials of the city government’s water and sewerage wing had so far failed to restore water supply to their localities.

LYARI: Criticizing the officials concerned of the city government’s water and sewerage wing for not resolving the chronic water issue of Lyari’s D D Chowdhary Road, residents of Baitul Hashim and Zeeshan Arcade, demanded of the city Nazim to direct the officials concerned to restore supply to their locality without any delay, or else they would continue to be deprived of water even during Ramazan.

Water supply to some other parts of the city was also badly affected on Sunday owing to a shortfall of 35 million gallons of water caused due to a burst in a 66-inch dia pipeline supplying water to K-2 pump house.
