KARACHI: Flour price cut for Ramazan

KARACHI, Oct 31: The Sindh minister for food and forests, Hassan Ali Chaneho, has directed the food department to take effective measures to overcome the shortage of flour and control its price as part of the government’s Ramazan package.

Presiding over a meeting of Food Department officials in his office on Thursday, he said flour mill-owners must ensure that flour of one and the same quality was sold throughout the province and asked all district Nazims and DCOs to take action against the flour mills that indulged in any sort of adulteration.

The minister ordered setting up of vigilance committees in all districts to monitor the quality and price of flour during Ramzan saying that a meeting of flour mill-owners in this regard could be summoned to determine new and decreased flour prices.

He also suggested setting up of stalls in districts where good quality flour at nominal rates would be sold.

The secretary for Food and Cooperation, Imtiaz Qazi, told the minister that the provincial cabinet had reduced the price of 100kg wheat bag from Rs827 to Rs750, and about 0.2 million tons of wheat would be released for Ramazan.

He further said that a price of Rs9 per kg of flour had been fixed after talks with the Flour Mills Association.

The meeting was attended by the director for food, Sindh, Iqbal Ahmed Zaidi, the deputy director for food, Karachi, Abdul Majeed Bajari and other officials.—PPI
