KARACHI, Oct 30: The four-year-old chestnut colt Shining Steel with jockey M. Nasir once again in the saddle, completed a fine hat trick of winners for owner Shokat Awan, by picking up the spoils in the fifth race at the Winter Gymkhana Race Meeting held Wednesday at the Karachi Racecourse.

Trained by Taj Mohammad, on course for the Champion Trainer award, Shinning Steel never gave the connections any jitters, although Neelam Taab forced the colt to bring out his best in the home stretch.

Satellite Star, another entry from Taj’s stable finished third, with Quick Mover completing the frame.

Another impressive winner on the afternoon’s programme, was the seven-year-old chestnut gelding Mubashar Prince, making it two winners in a row for owner Irfan Mehdi with Arshad piloting the winner to victory.

The same could be said about the six-year-old bay horse Wonderful Peace piloted once again by A. Rahim, holding off the stiff challenge of Al Jarrar in the concluding race, to present owner Nihal Pervaiz with another smashing victory.

The first race of the afternoon was registered by Makhdoom Ali Raza’s three-year-old bay filly Royal Beauty partnered by jockey S. Khan, finishing well ahead of second placed Miss Neutron.

A dead heat occurred in the second event, when Lawrence of Arabia with riding boy Kashif Ali aboard and Sunday Silence ridden by jockey Azeem, passed the winning post together. Not even the magic eye of the camera could separate the two runners.

The 10-year-old chestnut horse Silent Fire, produced another splendid performance, winning the third race with riding boy Zahoor Ahmed up, after being engaged in a keen tussle when heads turned for home by Baby Tabassum and High Speed.

Owner-trainer Mohammad Rafiq, had his cherished moments, when his game three-year-old bay filly Superb Star, also made it two winners in a row with jockey Tariq Mehmood once again at the helm.

The next race is scheduled for Sunday.
