Sui Gas to face PTCL in Kardar Trophy final

KARACHI, Oct 30: Sui Gas will meet Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation Limited (PTCL) in the final of Kardar Trophy cricket tournament after the conclusion of the league phase Wednesday.

Both Sui Gas and PTCL qualified for the four-day final, scheduled to be played at Lahore Country Club Ground in Muridke from Saturday, after topping their respective groups.

Meanwhile, Owais Athar completed a match bag of 13 for 132 as KESC coasted to an easy innings and 28 runs win over Pakistan Navy at National Stadium on the third and final day.

Owais took two more wickets after Navy resumed at 56 for six in their second innings. The sailors were eventually dismissed for 134 with Owais taking six for 43.

Sui Gas also scored an identical victory at the nearby PCB Regional Academy Ground after Pakistan Air Force (PAF) lost their remaining second innings eight wickets for 51 runs after starting the day on 115 for two.

Off-spinner Raza Khan was wrecker-in-chief with figures of five for 35 while paceman Azhar Abbas claimed four for 53 as PAF were all out for 166 in their second innings.

Pakistan Education Board (PEB), meanwhile, suffered a 10-wicket drubbing at the hands of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) at KCCA Stadium.

The students added just 39 runs to their overnight tally of 203 for four. Off-spinner Haaris Ayaz captured three for 58 and slow left-armer Rashid Hanif three for 34 as PEB were sent packing for 242 in their second innings.

Haaris finished with a match haul of nine for 72 in 25.3 overs.

KPT needed only 3.1 overs to achieve the required 20 runs for victory.

Karachi Electric Supply Corporation beat Pakistan Navy by an innings and 28 runs.

PAKISTAN NAVY 207 in 64.1 overs (Wasim Naeem 57, Jawwad Ali 49, Naveed Haider 30; Owais Athar 7-69, Tahir Khan 2-17) and 134 (Iftikhar Ahmed 30, Owais Athar 6-63, Adeel Malik 2-35);

KESC 369-8 in 80 overs (Agha Sabir 88, Arif Mahmood 66, Amin-ur-Rehman 63, Tahir Khan 52; Nasir Khan 3-123, Mohammad Waheed 2-49).

KPT 374-8 declared in 79 overs (Zafar Jadoon 115, Maisam Hasnain 105, Fahadullah 80, Rashid Hanif 48 not out; Azam Jan 2-38, Aamir Yousuf 2-79, Kamran Younis 2-82) and 20-0.
