ISLAMABAD, Oct 30: The Sindh government will ensure justice to the bereaved family of the slain journalist, Shahid Soomro, and will proceed against his killers in accordance with the law.

This was stated by the federal minister for information and media development, Nisar A Memon, on Wednesday.

A press release stated that the minister expressed his satisfaction over the grant of Rs300,000 by the Sindh governor for the heirs of the deceased.

Memon also extended the assurance that the federal government would do its best for the rehabilitation of the family members of the recently-killed young journalist.

He assured the members of the bereaved family that the culprits would not go unpunished, adding that the law would take its course with full speed and justice.

He said that the government believed in the freedom of the press and would endeavour to create a congenial atmosphere for the journalists to enable them to discharge their professional duties without fear or favour.

The minister said that he was aware about the sensitivity of the matter and understood the concern among the journalists.

The government, he said, would not allow unscrupulous elements to take the law in their own hand on account of rivalry or professional jealously or for any other reason.—APP
