CPNE welcomes press laws

KARACHI, Oct 30: The president and secretary-general of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), in a joint statement, have welcomed the promulgation of the ordinances relating to the newspapers, periodicals and news agencies registration and the Press Council as also freedom of information.

They called upon the government to convene a meeting at the earliest to sort out the amendments to these legislations, specially the Defamation Ordinance, as proposed by CPNE and APNS.

The CPNE office-bearers said that they welcomed the promulgation of the ordinances relating to registration of newspapers, periodicals, news agencies and books and printing presses and would strongly urge the government to finalize the rules and also the appointment of a registrar without delay.
