Baseball stadium for Islamabad

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Oct 29: A stadium exclusively for baseball will be provided by the federal government in Islamabad.

Pakistan Federation Baseball and Softball (PFBS) president, Shaukat Javed, said that the project to get a baseball stadium from the government was in its initial stages, as baseball is being promoted extensively and Pakistan is getting some recognition in the sport in Asia.

Pakistan had qualified for the 14th Asian Games held in Busan this month, but neither the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) nor Pakistan Olympic Association were ready to provide financial assistance to the federation for sending the team to Busan.

He explained that the National Inter-department baseball championship begins at the Iqbal Park Sports Complex Wednesday. Defending champions Army, Wapda and Police are taking part. The competition will be held on single league basis.

After conclusion of the championship, Pakistan team would be selected for the forthcoming fifth Asia Cup in Bangkok, Thailand from Dec 9 to 16.
