Students protest against proposed educational reforms

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Oct 29: Scores of students from Asghar Mall College on Tuesday held a protest demonstration against the proposed formation of Board of Governors (BoGs) in the educational institutions.

The demonstration was organized by the Peoples Students Federation (PSF) in which about 200 students participated.

The protesting students, carrying banners and placards, marched on the Asghar Mall Road and raised slogans against the government and proposed BoGs.

A contingent of police were deployed to avoid any untoward incident.

While speaking to the participants of the rally, the PSF Rawalpindi president, Zeeshan Mehdi, accused the government of following anti-poor policies of the IMF and World Bank.

“We want to make it clear for the government that students, teachers and parents won’t allow education to be destroyed by vested interest,” he said.

The PSF president warned that if the educational reforms are not withdrawn, the protest demonstrations may turn violent.

Others who spoke on the occasion also included Tauqir Abbasi, Javed Khan, Ayaz Khan, and Sheraz Kiani.

Later on, the demonstrators dispersed peacefully.
