Court grants remand of ex-principal

By Our Staff Correspondent

MUZAFFARABAD, Oct 28: An Ehtesab court here on Monday granted physical remand for seven days of a retired air force officer, alleged to be involved in corruption.

Malik Mumtaz Khan, a retired wing commander, resident of Rawalpindi, was arrested at his residence on Saturday and shifted to Ehtesab Bureau’s subjail here. The bureau produced him in the Ehtesab Court No.1, presided over by Syed Nisar Hussain Shah, on Monday for his remand.

Mumtaz Khan has been accused by the bureau of committing embezzlement in a purchase deal worth Rs2.1 million as chairman purchase committee of Cadet College Palandari in 1997. He was also the principal of the college.

The court accepted the bail plea of another accused, Mohammad Mumtaz, who was arrested three days ago from Palandari in connection with alleged embezzlement in the same institute.

The court asked him to produce surety and personal bonds worth Rs2 million each for his release.
